AURA TV — Netflix-Style Web IPTV Player

Overview

AURA TV is a modern web front end for live IPTV. It takes plain M3U playlists and presents them as a streaming-service experience instead of a long channel list.

How it works

The app loads several .m3u sources at the same time, parses them, removes duplicates and groups channels into horizontal rails by their playlist category (sports, news, regional and more). Selecting a channel plays it in a hero player built on hls.js, with a blurred backdrop of the active channel behind it. Users can add their own playlist URLs, which are saved in local storage. They can also search across channel names and categories, filter by source, and pick up where they left off because the last-played channel is restored.

Engineering notes

• Playback resilience: missing channel logos are backfilled from a public logo CDN, with Unicode-safe initials as a fallback. Streams that fail in the browser are retried automatically through a companion CORS proxy service.
• Keyboard control: play/pause, previous/next channel, fullscreen and mute.
• Lean bundle: the optional Firebase live-viewer counter is lazy-loaded only when configured, so the initial bundle stays Firebase-free.
• PWA: it ships with a web manifest and service worker, so it can be installed like an app.

The production build is a static Vite bundle served by nginx in a small Docker image, and it deploys automatically on every push through a self-hosted PaaS.
