SudoShield — Browser-Based Web OS

Overview

SudoShield is a browser-based operating system that recreates a full desktop experience inside a web page. Users log in to a desktop with draggable, resizable windows, a launcher with app shortcuts and search, and a set of built-in applications — all written in vanilla JavaScript without a frontend framework or build step.

How it works

A desktop manager initializes the environment and manages app lifecycles, while a window manager handles rendering, dragging, resizing, z-ordering and minimize/maximize states. A virtual in-browser filesystem backs both the File Manager app and the terminal, and a central state module keeps the system consistent.

The terminal supports 20+ commands covering filesystem operations, system info, utilities and IP discovery, plus an AI command that sends queries to an n8n webhook and renders the markdown response client-side with marked.js and HTML sanitization. Built-in apps include a browser with DuckDuckGo live search suggestions, file manager, settings, YouTube, games and more, alongside AI widgets for voice and text interaction.

Visual polish comes from a dedicated effects layer — particles, Matrix rain and an anime-inspired theme. For accounts, a small PHP API with a MySQL schema (users and activity log) provides server-side authentication and an admin interface. The project is open-source under the MIT license.
